Meet Shane - owner, electrician, and local
Shane Harrex first joined Central Otago Electrical as an apprentice in 2007. He became a qualified electrician in 2010 and quickly gained hands-on experience working on major industrial jobs, including mining and orchard operations where downtime simply wasn’t an option. That early exposure to high-pressure environments taught Shane the importance of fast thinking, clear communication, and reliable solutions.
In 2014, Shane became a co-owner alongside original founder Greg Hamill. Together, they expanded the business into new areas like solar installations, inspections, telecommunications, and security systems.
By 2025, Shane became sole owner, bringing a fresh focus and energy to the business while continuing to honour the values the company was built on. He is a registered electrical inspector and plays an active role in day-to-day operations.
Shane has played for the local rugby team for 13 seasons (as a captain for some of those), and been a committed member of the Alexandra Fire Brigade, so is a familiar face in the community. Shane has been lucky to have the support of his wife, Cindy, who played a key role in designing and improving the business office and overall presentation. Together, they’re raising a family with four wonderful children.
